I think it's perfect for background, transitions and cool effects.
Overcast is quite similar to iMovie, but built for iPhone.
If you don't want to spend time and find a really nice free app, you can also try XSplit, which is a real pro tool for broadcasting. It works with pretty much any app, so you can record from your music player, photostream, etc.

I have a Date object called 'now', and it's passing a value like "03/31/2020".
Is there a simple way to get just the month of the date from the string?

You could use:
var month = now.getMonth();
To get the month from an already existing string formatted like "03/31/2020".
Of course, this is assuming that you do not need anything else (like day or year) from the Date object.
